Mapping Human Terrain

MAP-HT

Map-HT (Mapping the Human Terrain) is a system designed to provide commanders with improved capabilities to integrate civil and socio-cultural information into their decision making process.

The Map-HT toolkit, which provides data collection, visualization and analysis capabilities was originally developed by Overwatch in conjunction with the Army's Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) Program.

Map-HT enhances warfighter capability to collect, consolidate, visualize and understand the human domain in which they are operating.

Through use of the system, warfighters are able to develop an understanding of human cultural and behavioral knowledge in counterinsurgent and other environments.

Core Map-HT technology provided to soldiers includes infrastructure management, web research, social network analysis and real-time collaboration to collect, store, process, analyze, visualize and share green data through all phases of the Civil Information Management process.

Map-HT provides our military with advanced tools for meeting each of the following objectives:

  • Providing commanders with relevant, socio-cultural information and knowledge, and the dedicated expertise to integrate that understanding into their military decision-making process.

  • Minimizing loss in continuity between Unit Relief in Place/Transfer of Authority.

  • Research, interpretation, archiving and analysis of cultural information and knowledge to enhance operational effectiveness.

  • Maximized effectiveness of operational decisions through harmonized Courses of Action.

As Map-HT moves beyond the JCTD to fielding and deployment in multiple Areas of Operation, Overwatch continues to provide the program shop and multi-vendor team the foundational architecture upon which the U.S. Government can build upon for years to come.
